Early Years
Curriculum
Early Years Foundation Stage
Primary
Secondary
Sixth Form
During this educational stage, which comprises two year groups: Nursery (3 years) and Reception (4 years), children learn through carefully planned activities based on different themes, which are developed both inside and outside the classroom. The curriculum is based on the importance of play and the social and emotional development of the children. The seven key learning areas that we work in are essential for developing a young child’s capacity to learn and thrive:
- Personal, social, and emotional development
- Communication and Language
- Physical development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Art and Design
Foundation has its own separate building, with outside space and a wide range of scope for play and discovery of the environment.
Each class has a full-time teacher, a learning assistant, and auxiliary staff who help during break and lunch times.
Primary
Primary education forms the foundation of a child’s s basic education. It is divided into two key stages: KS1 (Year 1 and Year 2), in which students acquire and consolidate key skills, and KS2 (Years 3 – 6) in which students become more independent, develop their skills and contribute more to their own learning.
We follow all key principles of a British education while taking into account the richness of the environment and culture of Spain.
- 100% of our teachers are fully qualified, trained in the United Kingdom, and have relevant experience.
- The core subjects, English, Mathematics, Science, and Spanish form a large part of the curriculum and the timetable.
- There is a session each day dedicated to the Spanish language.
- Specific subjects are taught by specialised teachers.
- We promote ICT education.
- Each week our children talk about topics of interest during their assembly.
- We have an ALN department (Additional Learning Needs), which provides additional support.
- Each subject is taught by a specialised teacher, including Business Studies, Art and Design, ICT, among others.
- Students study a modern foreign language of their choice (French or German)
- In core subjects, students are split into groups according to ability.
- Students study for their GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and at the end of the two-year GCSE programme students sit their official examinations.
- There is also a Personal, Health and Social Education programme throughout Secondary school.
- We provide a great variety of opportunities such as international exchanges, debates, and student conferences.
- We prepare students for their A-Level exams, which allow them to access universities around the world.
- We also teach subjects from the Spanish curriculum, which allow them direct access to Spanish universities, both public and private.
- Specialised coordinators in charge of university guidance will help them to choose their academic and professional future.
- Sixth Form students have a dedicated common room area, provided with Wi-Fi, which is reserved exclusively for their use to work outside of lesson times.
- Tutors meet their groups daily and also have scheduled PHSE and an assembly session each week.
At the end of the stage, students obtain double British and Spanish qualifications.
